    I just order a spare fly-sky receiver for my 6ch fs-t6 Controller!
It’s the one I’m going to use on the Smit Nederland model.
Once I order and build her! Will have to see what other details I add to her.
Lights, Radar, Winch, Capstan. who knows what else!

    Hi James,
What would be a good filler to use?
It would be used on the Smit Nederland’s Rudders!
The folks at Billings changed from brass rudders to plastic rudders!
    Don’t ask why I think it’s a mistake!
Anyway what do you think can be used as filler, remember it will be under water full time.

    • I use Green Putty made by Squadron Products. it’s fast drying but you need ventilation until it drys.

    • NO! I was afraid you would say that!
I used some when I built my San Pedro.
Talk about having to abandon the area!
Works great oh, but how it smells…..
      any other idea’s?
Or is the green putty the best for that?

    • I know it’s smelly but it bonds pretty well as long as the parts are really clean. I should probably look around and find a substitute. I usually stick with one thing until it stops working.

    Hi James,
Well I got a call from Horizon Hobby.
They’re going to send me a return ticket, and credit my card!
Looks as if I’m going to be able to get the Smit Nederland after all.
I’ve looked all over the place for it, but wasn’t able to find it!
The only place I see that has it is Cornwall Model Boats in the UK.

    • Can’t wait to see what you do with it….. I might just get one after I finish the Sub project

    • Are you going to make a Video of your Sub project?
If so can’t wait to see it!

    • Yup. It’s going to be a long project because of all the little stuff involved. I will be working from the David Merriman DVDs for the build. I will have to create 3 to 4 videos to cover the whole project. I ordered the kit from Bob Martin’s https://www.rc-submarine.com/. It came with a lot of parts, You should follow him on youtube RCSUBGUy htt…[Read more]

    Happy New Years, James!

  • Ed Figueroa posted an update 2 weeks, 5 days ago

Well I just got an Email from the folks at Horizon Hobby.
It turns out that I have to send back my boat for another one!
I sent then a video of all the water that comes into the boat.
They agree it’s too much water, There a problem with the boat!
So back goes the boat. hopefully the replacement is a little drier…..

    • That’s great. Horizon Hobby is pretty good about resolving issues. I’m guessing the pond is still frozen over so you should be good to go when you get the new one back.

What is your wife making for your niece?

  • Ed Figueroa posted an update 3 weeks, 1 day ago

    Hi James,
Did you get your study guild for your amateur license?
    How are your studies going?
I’m actually thinking of upgrading to general class.
    Then go to Extra Class!

    • I am going to start working on that after the first of the year. My wife has me roped into helping her with her craft project for our nieces baby shower. She the crafting queen.

    • I found this maint video for your new boat. this might help with the leaking.

    • Thanks, for the link! I saw that same video after I had ordered the boat! The water leak comes from the seams of the jets, as the jets go out the boat through the transom! I’ll have to take another look at how the water goes into the boat. will let you know what I come up with…

    Hi James,
Merry Christmas, to you and your family!

  • Ed Figueroa posted an update 3 weeks, 5 days ago

    Hi James,
You should do a revue of the ProBoats Alpha Boat!
Great boat and details but, it a Sponge!
Revue it you’ll see what I mean!

    • Can definitely use a bilge pump!
Did a bathtub run of 5 minutes.
It took on a cup of water…….

    • Was it leaking around the shaft

    • I spoke to quick. You may have to check the connections and make sure they are tight since the boat uses jets instead of a propeller. I may have to get one for myself.

    • The water comes in through, where the jets go out of the boat! But while the boat is in the water just floating it’s OK.
But as soon as you turn on the motors water comes in through the seams of the jets! it’s as if they didn’t glue the jets to the boats transom correctly. I don’t know how to take the boat apart to service this problem. Real…[Read more]

    • Here is a review that I found. It looks like you can remove the rear hatch above jets.

      Hope this helps

    HI James,
I have a question about Lipo batteries?
How dangerous are or how volatile are they?
Do they really explode or are they ok to use!
My Proboats Alpha Boat just arrived!
You can use Lipo or NiMH.
I’m thinking of Lipo what do you think?
Wouldn’t the Lipo give better performance than the NiMH Battery?
    Let me know?

    • Lipos are good as long as you don’t damage them. If they start to swell I would dispose of them. I prefer the NiMH in my boats.

    • Thanks, I think I’ll get some NiMH Batteries!
I thinking of getting 3 of them an a Charger!

    • BAOFENG BF-F8HP Looks like a nice Handie Talkie (HT).
Don’t forget to get your License (Ticket)!
It’s very easy to get tempted to Kirchunk!
Key up the mike to test if you can get the repeaters!
Don’t do it until you are qualified to do so.
Even then not a good thing to do.
Take your time reading the book(s).

    Hi James,
Did you find out anything about the amateur radio stuff on your end?
I have looked through all of the websites regarding the Smit Nederland model.
It looks as if I’ll be saving for a few month to be able to order it!
That’s ok I’ve been doing a lot of research. and it looks as if they are now making the rudders out of plastic. Makes me…[Read more]

@figtree7nts What would be the best radio that is portable and long range. And how long is long range. Thanks…

    • The KG-UVED is ok to start with!
the portables use a system or repeaters that’s another radio that amplifies the signal! The signal of the portable, I forget the distanse it covers without the repeater. I believe it’s about 1 to 2 miles! Don’t quote me….
The wouxun is ok to start with, you will need a reater directory guide to prgram the radio…[Read more]

    • I’m in Oklahoma. Looking forward to your suggestion. Thanks

    • Look into the local Oklahoma Amateur Repeater Guide!
For your area, also look into a ham radio store in the area.
Maybe they can tell you what are the local amateur bands used in your area! Let me know how you make out….

    • Thanks

@figtree7nts Whats the best radio to start out on. maybe portability counts You thoughts

    • Hi James,
I think to start out a portable is ok to start with.
I have a Wouxun (KG-UV3D) with the extended antenna and external mike!
It’s a two band Portable there are 3 even 4 band portables.
But to start it’s ok to get one on 2 meters and 70 centimeters.

  • Hi James,
I will keep my fingers crossed!
Thanks, for taking time to look around the web for the Smit Nederland.
I think I’m going to have to save up for awhile. until I can get the model.
I remember building the Smit about 30 yrs ago. it was in 1/200 or 1/1200 scale.
So, lets just say I’ve been waiting a log time. to build it in a bigger scale…

  • Hi James,
You sound really busy with your projects.
Presently I’m saving up for one of the tugs I mentioned! It’ll be the Brooklyn Tug or The Smit Nederland Tug! guess I’ll keep on saving up. the Smit Nederland Is going for about $515.00 from the UK! I looked it up here in the states it’s going for $625.00.
Do you know any where in the states…[Read more]
